MBA (1984)

The Master of Business Administration was the first graduate program established at Elon. The first cohort enrolled in fall 1984 and since that time the program has achieved national recognition for outstanding academics and a commitment to students’ success. Bloomberg Businessweek ranks Elon the #1 part-time MBA program in the South, with the top scores in student satisfaction, post-MBA outcomes and A+ grades in teaching quality and curriculum. Learn more.

M.Ed. (1986)

The Master of Education degree was established in 1986 as a way for teachers to build upon their existing skills without taking time away from the important work they do each day in the classroom. The program is taught over the course of three consecutive summers with the remaining courses taught online during the intervening school years. M.Ed. students choose from three programs: elementary education, special education and gifted education. Learn more.

DPT (1998)

The first physical therapy class at Elon enrolled in 1998. At that time, the university offered a master’s degree. During its initial accreditation stages, the program became the first in the history of graduate physical therapy programs not to require changes. As physical therapists began to take a more substantial role in the direct care of patients, the profession recommended programs transition into doctoral-level education. In 2003, Elon debuted the Doctor of Physical Therapy program integrating dynamic classroom instruction with impressive opportunities for hands-on learning. In 2012, the program moved to the newly renovated Gerald L. Francis Center, custom-designed for Elon’s School of Health Sciences. Learn more.

Law (2006)

The Elon Law School opened in fall 2006 in downtown Greensboro, N.C. Students are instructed by faculty who have taught and practiced law around the world and are mentored one-on-one by practicing lawyers and judges. The Elon University Law School’s signature leadership program is woven through courses, seminars and professional learning experiences. Elon University School of Law has received full accreditation by the American Bar Association. Elon Law’s ABA full approval was achieved at the earliest possible date under accreditation guidelines, certifying that the school is in full compliance with all ABA standards for the approval of law schools. Learn more.

Interactive Media (2009)

The Master of Arts in Interactive Media launched in summer 2009 and prepares graduates to be leaders and innovators in the new world of 21st century communication. The 10-month, full-time program focuses on both theory and practical application. Students will create group and individual interactive media projects and participate in a domestic or international fly-in trip to collect content for a project that will serve the public good. Elon is one of only nine private institutions in the nation with a graduate communications program accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). Learn more.

Physician Assistant Studies (2013)

The Elon University Board of Trustees approved the establishment of a master of science program in physician assistant studies in October 2010. The program began accepting applications on a rolling basis in September 2011 for the charter class that enrolled January 2013. The program was granted “Accreditation-Continued” status in August 2016. The 27-month, full-time program prepares graduates to think critically and act skillfully to meet expanding health care needs in local and global communities. The program is housed in the Gerald L. Business Analytics (2015)

Elon University approved the establishment of a Master of Science in Management program in November 2014 and began accepting applications for the inaugural class to enroll September 2015. The program was re-named in 2020 with a focus specifically on the high-demand study of analytics. The 10-month, full-time program combines classes at the main campus and at the Solution Center in Research Triangle Park.

Accounting (2018)

The Master of Science in Accounting was approved to enroll its first class in Spring 2018. This accelerated, full-time program prepares students to pass the CPA exam and find quality employment in a highly competitive field. During their final undergraduate semester, students accepted into the MSA program will transition directly into graduate coursework that also integrates an internship, international study experience and concentrations in either tax or audit. This is a fast-paced, 30-hour program that also emphasizes small class sizes with nationally recognized faculty from the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. Learn more.

Higher Education (2018)

The Master of Arts in Higher Education was approved for enrollment beginning in Fall 2018, and equips students with the tools to successfully take on education, administration and mentorship roles in college and university settings. The full-time, 36-hour program not only enriches students with hands-on experiences such as apprenticeships, internships and study abroad, but also challenges students to be mentors and advocates for social justice and ethical decision-making. In accordance with Elon’s missions to develop future generations into well-rounded global citizens, the MHE program prepares tomorrow’s higher education administrators through high-quality and high-impact experiences.
