Engineering Fellows is a selective merit-based program for students in Elon’s four-year engineering program. Fellows are challenged to design, prototype and test potential solutions to the complex problems facing our world today. Learn more about Engineering Fellows on the program website.

Starting in their first year, Engineering Fellows collaborate with peers and faculty mentors to take on “Grand Challenges” developed by the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and develop skills and competencies in:

  • Engineering solutions that serve the needs of others.
  • Designing and implementing culturally-sensitive solutions.
  • Developing multidisciplinary engineering solutions.
  • Creating business and entrepreneurship experiences through experiential opportunities.
  • Developing a plan to deepen multicultural fluencies through Elon Core classes and/ or participation in specific global study experiences.

Who should apply?

Students who plan to pursue a four-year engineering degree and have a GPA of 3.8 or higher should apply. Twenty-five academically talented students enrolled in Elon’s B.S. in Engineering program are selected based on their high school academic performance, scholarship essay prompt on the first-year application and a faculty interview. Engineering Fellows applications are due November 1 (priority) or January 10.

Scholarships

All 25 Engineering Fellows receive a $7,500 scholarship, renewable annually based on academic performance and program participation. Students can also apply for additional funds to support their research. Each student also receives a one-time $1,000 Global Study grant for a university-approved study abroad or Study USA experience.
