More than 2,500 Elon students participate in fraternities and sororities every year. A total of 26 Greek-letter organizations are part of the fraternity and sorority community. Three student-run councils govern these organizations: the Interfraternity Council, the National Pan-Hellenic Council and the Panhellenic Association. In addition to their individual functions, the councils often collaborate on initiatives and programs designed to enhance the experience of all members of the fraternity and sorority community.
Interested in joining?
First-year students cannot join a fraternity or sorority until the spring semester of their first year. Membership is open to full-time students who have earned 12 credits at Elon and are not on academic or disciplinary probation.
What do fraternities and sororities at Elon do?
Fraternity and sorority members are involved in various areas of campus life including undergraduate research, student employment, service and leadership. Each organization requires that members maintain a minimum GPA. All chapters emphasize the value of academic success and help members achieve through scholarship programs, study halls, incentive programs and peer tutoring. There are more than 250 leadership positions within the Greek community alone. Cumulatively, the fraternity/sorority community at Elon raises and donates thousands of dollars to charitable organizations each year.
Is joining the only way to have a social life on campus?
About 42% of Elon students participate Greek life, but there are plenty of other opportunities for students to meet people and have fun. With more than 240 student organizations, a vibrant Student Involvement office, a Center for Leadership with programs accessible to all students, and a nationally recognized service and civic engagement program, students can be involved on campus and create social networks.
