Housing Application

As a first-year student, you’ll live in Colonnades, Danieley, East, Global or Historic neighborhoods, but you won’t be able to provide any neighborhood preferences. Residence halls are randomly assigned to incoming students. Two days after you pay your enrollment deposit, you’ll activate your Elon email account. You need an Elon email account to access the housing application when it is becomes available in mid-January.

What you need to know about the housing application process

  1. Before you start the application process, consider whether you want to be part of a Living-Learning Community. You’ll also decide whether you want to be matched with a roommate or choose someone that you already know. (If you plan to choose someone, both of you need to name the other on your housing application.) About 50% of first-year students select their roommate in advance. The other 50% fill out the roommate questionnaire and get matched with another first-year student.
  2. Log into Self-Service website using your Elon email username and password. Choose Applications on the top menu, then First-Year Housing Application. Transfers and readmitted students complete the Transfer/Readmit Application.  The housing application is due May 5.
  3. Medical/disability-related housing accommodation requests are due May 1. Find more information about this process here.
  4. Complete the questions on the housing application. There are questions your lifestyle preferences. This includes information about study habits, bedtime, communication style, etc. Be honest on the roommate questionnaire so you can be matched with someone with similar interests or habits.
  5. If interested, apply to live in a Living-Learning Community.
  6. Choose a food (meal) plan.
  7. After completing the housing application, you can choose a roommate by choosing Room Selection from the top menu and then Roommates/Suitemates. Search for the name of your chosen roommate. That person will automatically receive an email and must accept the request.

What happens next?

  1. Students who applied to Living-Learning Communities are assigned rooms as space is available in those LLCs. You will be notified via email by May 30.
  2. The remainder of incoming students are assigned housing using a random process.
  3. Roommates are selected based on the indicators in the housing application.
  4. Room assignments and roommate information is posted in your Acorn Account for students on July 10. You will also receive an email.
