Frequently Asked Questions
How is North Carolina culture different from the Midwest?
Southern hospitality is not an urban legend. Expect to meet lots of people who will want to know your story, and plenty of passersby who will say “hello” as you walk around campus. Elon students are from all over the United States and various corners of the globe, so you’ll experience many different cultures on campus.
What’s the weather like at Elon?
Our students from the North and Midwest love Elon’s weather. You can wear shorts well into the fall. It starts to get chilly in November. Winters are short and mild with one or two snowstorms (an average of 1-2 inches) per year. Unlike colder states, Elon might be in the 40s one day and in the 70s the next during the winter. January is the coldest month with an average low temperature of 31 degrees and an average high temperature of 49 degrees.
How do I get to campus from the airport?
The nearest major airport is Greensboro’s Piedmont Triad International (GSO), which is just 30 minutes from campus. Raleigh/Durham International Airport (RDU) is also convenient; it’s a 50-minute drive from Elon. Shuttles run from Elon to both airports, and you can easily catch a ride back to campus after holidays or when classes begin.
Can I take a virtual tour?
In addition to in-person campus visits, we offer virtual campus visit sessions to prospective students.
If you can’t make it to campus for a visit or you just want to see our campus again, watch our video tour.
Is a campus map available online?
We have several different maps available to help you get to know Elon.
