Overview

As an Elon grad, your network is probably bigger than you realize, and you have more influence than you know! If you’re the captain of your Elon friend group, this is the low-key volunteer opportunity for you. Connect with your friends when it’s time to register for an Elon event, come back to campus for Homecoming, or make a gift and make sure they know. You know how important our Elon alumni network is and the difference alumni can make together. Let’s channel that and pay it forward for Elon students.

So, what do I do?

  • Make your own gift of any size to any campus designation.
  • Reach out to your Elon network (email, social media, text, etc.) and invite your friends to attend events, register for Homecoming, and/or make their gift.
  • We have a special focus on paying it forward for Elon students. Highlight giving opportunities during 3 key giving periods (Homecoming, Elon Day, end of fiscal year).
  • Thank your friends for making their gifts. A little thanks goes a long way.
  • Stick with it for at least 1 academic year!

F.A.Q.s

What's this “peer to peer” engagement and fundraising thing?

Peer-to-peer fundraising or simply friend-to-friend engagement works because it is rooted in personal connections and trust. Alumni are more likely to contribute when asked by a peer they know and respect. This approach creates a ripple effect, where each volunteer’s efforts can significantly amplify Elon’s impact. Did you know? The average nonprofit has to reach 1,250 people with an in-house email fundraising appeal to land one donation. Peer-to-peer fundraisers only have to reach four of their friends with an email to land that same donation.  Talk about impact!

Give me the nuts and bolts- what do I really do?

As a Peer Agent, you’ll receive approx. 4 emails from Elon and a few check-ins from our staff. Each email will detail engagement and giving opportunities for you to share with your networks. After each email, your role is to share, share, share. Make sure your friend group and network know the scoop!

What’s the time commitment?

We call this “low commitment, high impact.” A peer agent devotes about 6 hours of outreach over a 10-month period.

Can I pick a fund I’m especially passionate about to help fundraise for?

Absolutely! We encourage you to share about your favorite campus fund, whether it’s your major, athletics, scholarships, favorite student organization or something else entirely. Give to what YOU care about and encourage your friends to do the same.
