Infrastructure
Infrastructure is primarily responsible for all physical and virtual server management, virtual desktop infrastructure, storage/backup management, disaster recovery planning, enterprise systems and application management, network infrastructure, electronic door access infrastructure, and network security. This department is made up of two primary units:
Networking/Telecommunications
Networking/Telecommunications is primarily concerned with the architecture, maintenance, and protection of our data infrastructure. This includes all routing, switching, wireless (wifi networking), specialty products like VoIP, and physical security products (e.g., door access and video surveillance support). This team serves as Tier III support in cooperation with the Service Desk for issues experienced by users. In partnership with Teaching and Learning Technologies (TLT), Networking/Telecommunications also serves as consultants and tech support when faculty or staff need insight on how new technology could augment their work. This team strives to be “vendor agnostic,” ensuring that all of these parts interconnect for a seamless user experience. Finally, Networking/Telecommunications works closely with the Information Security Director to ensure that Elon’s network and its users are safe from intrusion, malware, and other hazards of the information superhighway.
Systems Administration
Systems Administration is responsible for all of the business critical servers, including email. They are responsible for the accessibility, reliability, availability, and security for all of the servers required to conduct university business.
