2008 Burst the Bubble Programs

Burst the Bubble programs are free, student-led, non-credit sessions where students who have a talent, interest, or skill share their knowledge with their peers. Burst the Bubble programs are offered during Winter Term and are open to all students at Elon University. Burst the Bubble programs do not include homework, tests, outside assignments or grades. There is no faculty or staff involvement in teaching the programs.

BTB 001: Tango Argentino

Tuesdays and Thursdays 7 – 8:30 pm

Ever seen the Tango danced in a movie and thought “I wish I could do that?”  You can!  Learn how to dance the Tango straight from the dance halls of Buenos Aires.  It’s sleek, sensual, and SIMPLE!  Learn all about the dance and the culture from which it came.  Taught by a student returning from a semester abroad in Argentina.

BTB 002: Viewing the Middle East Through Frank Herbert’s “Dune”

Instructor: Bryan Ray
Mondays and Wednesdays 5:30 – 7 pm

The novel, Dune, has many allegorical references to the historical and modern Middle East.  The purpose of this workshop is to explain these similarities in an effort to better understand the Middle East.

BTB 003: Clogging, From Hillbilly to Hip Hop and Everywhere in Between

Mondays and Wednesdays 8 – 9 pm

Students will learn a brief history of clogging, as well as all the basic clogging steps that will culminate in a final informal performance for their peers!  No shoes or dance experience required so get ready to get down this winter term!

BTB 004: Around the World in Less Than a Month

Wednesdays 5 – 7 pm 

Students will explore a variety of cultures through conversation, film, food, music and art in an effort to eliminate cultural stereotypes and develop cultural awareness.  (Presented in partnership with Intercultural Relations Club)

BTB 005: Fly-Tying and Lure-Making

Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30 – 8 pm

The perfect dry fly for a clear mountain trout stream.  The spinner bait that calls the bass from the weeds.  Learn how to make your own fishing flies and lures.
