January 2025
Burst the Bubble programs are free, student-led, non-credit sessions where students who have a talent, interest, or skill share their knowledge with their peers. Burst the Bubble programs are offered during Winter Term and are open to all students at Elon University. Burst the Bubble programs do not include homework, tests, outside assignments or grades. There is no faculty or staff involvement in facilitating the programs.
BTB 001: Crafting the Story— A Plot Workshop for Writers
Facilitator: Natalie Lynch
Day/Time: Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30 pm
Sometimes the unsung or most difficult work behind crafting a story isn’t writing it— it’s figuring out everything happening behind the scenes and being able to string it together. In this workshop, you’ll figure out how to outline a story together beginning to end, weaving in character subplots and details to set up reveals and foreshadow just the right amount, never having to wonder that age old question: “what comes next?” By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a basic outline from which you can hit the ground running to craft your story.
BTB 002: Earn Your Money | Music Business 101: Split Sheets
Facilitator: Nailah Ware
Day/Time: Thursdays, 6-7 pm
In this session, participants will learn the essentials of creating and using split sheets in the music industry, which are critical for defining how royalties and credits are divided among collaborators in the music creation process. The course will cover how to fill out split sheets accurately, ensuring all contributors are fairly compensated for their work. Additionally, we will discuss how to effectively communicate with collaborators to make sure that split sheets are used in studio and recording sessions to avoid any disputes or misunderstandings later on. By the end of the course, participants will have a solid understanding of the process and tools needed to navigate this essential part of the music business.
BTB 003: Intro to Crochet (Level 1)
Facilitator: Ella Pierman
Day/Time: Tuesdays, 5:30-6:30 pm
This class will focus on the basics of crochet, such as learning different stitches, reading patterns, and creating different crocheted items. Although no crochet experience is needed, this class will be taught at a faster pace. After the three weeks, participants will have a better grasp on crocheting and will have produced three different items: a bookmark, a granny square coaster, and a wall decor sunflower.
BTB 004: Intro to Crochet (Level 2)
Facilitator: Alysa James
Day/Time: Thursdays, 5:30-6:30 pm
This workshop is for people who have a basic understanding of crochet (i.e. know the basic stitches and how to read a pattern). A different pattern will be provided each week, and instructors will assist in making sure participants know how to follow it. We will outline the project at the beginning of class, giving an overview of what we will be making. Then, everyone will work at their own pace while instructors are available to help whoever needs it. At the end of an hour, everyone should have the resources to finish their crochet project at home if they did not already finish it in the workshop. At the end of the three weeks, participants will have created a crochet top, a stuffed animal, and a car accessory.
BTB 005: Introduction to Stand Up Comedy. Writing a tight 5
Facilitator: Adam Arno
Day/Time: Thursdays, 6-8 pm
Have you ever wanted to be a funny friend? Do you feel you have a fun story to tell or an interesting perspective to explore? Stand-up comedy is a way to present your ideas in a way that an audience will love! This course will teach you the basics of joke structure, different types of jokes, and the basics of performing. By the end of the course, you will have worked on a 5-minute set that you can take and perform at one of the HAHA events in the spring! We will workshop each week on your sets and receive personal feedback! No experience needed, all are welcome!
BTB 006: K-DNS (K-Pop Dancing ‘n Singing)

Join K-DNS and other K-Pop fans as we work to cover a K-Pop song over the course of the winter semester!
BTB 007: March to the Beat: The Essence of Majorette Dance
Facilitator: Aniya Hogan
Day/Time: Wednesdays, 7-8 pm
Are you curious about what the Divine Embers dance team is all about? Join my class to learn the basics and history of majorette dancing! This energetic style mixes jazz, hip-hop, ballet, and more, all while honoring the tradition of military-inspired movements and baton twirling. You’ll get a chance to train with us, learn our team’s mission and values, and experience our unique style firsthand. Whether you’ve seen us perform or are simply looking to try something new, this class will give you a behind-the-scenes look at what makes majorette dance so special!
BTB 008: Navigating Life’s Big Questions: A Journey into Philosophy and Mental Wellness

Interested in life’s big questions? Want to learn more about yourself and the world? Whether you are new to philosophy or an avid learner, this workshop has something for you! We will explore some of the most fundamental questions of existence and their potential relevance to supporting mental well-being. Through thought-provoking discussions and engaging activities, you’ll have the opportunity to reflect on your own beliefs and experiences while connecting with others. Together, we’ll navigate topics such as purpose, identity, and the nature of happiness. Join us for a journey that promises to challenge your thinking and inspire meaningful conversations!
BTB 009: Science Through Film

Have you ever wondered if something in a Sci-fi movie could actually happen? If you have, join us to watch Sci-fi movies and learn about the science behind them and if these movies could become reality.
BTB 010: Scribbles and Screams
Facilitator: Jamari Heredia
Day/Time: Wednesdays, 5-6 pm
Scribbles and Screams allows a light form introduction to the fundamentals of drawings and how to apply various drawing techniques. Throughout the course, students will create various works to show their understanding of lecture before exploring various topics in psychology, neuroscience, and mental health. Topics will be used to connect students to the mind and how a creative form of expression may be useful to an individual then showcase the ability to express the intersections between self-expression, mental health and creative arts.”
BTB 011: Self-Defense
Facilitator: Autumn Kelly
Day/Time: Mondays 5:30-6:30 pm
Learn to protect yourself in a safe and low stress environment! Using a combination of Krav Maga, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and self-defense martial arts, this class is designed to be down-to-earth, dealing with real-world scenarios while building fitness and helping give you the proper mindset and tools. This class is open to everyone, so your skill or fitness level doesn’t matter. Not only do you get an easy workout and build your skills and confidence with self-defense training, but you will also get to hit things. Stay safe out there and remember that YOU are worth fighting for.
BTB 012: The Artistry of Silks Indoors: Winterguard
Facilitator: Leah Funchess
Day/Time: Tuesdays, 7-8 pm
This workshop is designed to teach the artistry of the flag and the blending of these movements with dance elements. The training will cover basic techniques to advanced choreography and skills. Come and learn how to gain skills in precision, coordination, and creative expression through the art of Winterguard. Anyone is welcome to come learn more about this activity and learn how to create visually beautiful silk work into a routine.
