Party smart is not a contradiction. You can have fun, entertain your friends, kick back and relax, and–yes, even drink alcoholic beverages–without violating the law, annoying your neighbors, destroying property, endangering yourself or others, or getting the police involved.  So if you are going to party, be smart about it. There are simple choices you can make ahead of time to make sure you are making the right choices later.

Party Smart is all about how to do that. Here are just a few tips to help you party smart.

  • Decide how you will get home before you go out.
  • Alternate alcohol with water to stay hydrated.
  • Don’t drink and drive.
  • Watch your drink.
  • Offer to be the designated driver.
  • Eat before drinking.
  • Never walk home alone.
  • Stay hydrated by keeping a bottle of water with you at all times.
  • Stick to one kind of alcohol, don’t mix.

Be a Good Neighbor

Whether you live on or off campus, maintaining positive relationships with your neighbors is an essential component of a great college experience. Start with introducing yourself and build this relationship throughout the year. Try following these eight simple steps as guide:

    A simple “hello” goes a long way
  2. EXCHANGE CONTACT INFORMATION
    Stay in touch and communicate concerns early
  3. BE CONSIDERATE
    Try to observe quiet hours between 11pm-7am
  4. MAINTAIN POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS
    Keep your neighbors informed of your plans
  5. PARTY SMART
    Plan ahead and notify neighbors in advance
  6. CLEAN UP
    Maintain appearances inside/outside of residence
  7. SAFETY MATTERS
    Be extra cautious & practice rideshare safety
  8. KNOW THE LAW
    Including university policies and town ordinances
