Brief Biography

Dr. Brandy Propst currently serves as the Director of Elon 1010, the first-year advising seminar, for all first-year students at Elon University. Dr. Propst's professional experience includes functional areas across student affairs and academic affairs to include Orientation/New Student Programs, Academic Advising/Support, First-Year Experience/Seminar Programs, Student Success/Retention Programs and Graduate Admissions/Enrollment Management. With 17 years of experience in orientation, transition, and retention programs, she has created and implemented high-impact programs through strategic planning and visioning, cross-divisional partnerships, and comprehensive assessments. In addition to her professional interests, she has been recognized on the state, regional, and national levels for her contributions to the field as a new professional and in the area of first-year experience.

Dr. Propst also serves as an adjunct professor in the Masters of Arts in Higher Education (MHE) program at Elon University. She is an energetic and experienced Black Feminist scholar-practitioner with a passion for creating socially just spaces and disrupting/dismantling oppressive structures and practices within colleges and universities that prohibit students, faculty, and staff from being authentic and successful in higher education. Dr. Propst develops and enhances her skills as a scholar-practitioner through scholarly publications, conducting research on specific trends and populations in higher education, teaching and developing/designing curriculum, active involvement in professional associations, conference presentations, and seeking out professional development opportunities to enhance her professional competencies.
