Brief Biography
Dr. Byung Lee is an associate professor in journalism at Elon University, N.C. At Elon, he has taught print journalism courses while integrating new technology. He has taught Web Publishing and Design; Polling, Research and Presentation; Editing and Layout; Media Writing; Writing and Information Gathering; International Communications; Interactive Media and Senior Seminar. He also launched the online version of the Pendulum, the college newspaper, in 1996.
He was head of the Visual Communication Division, AEJMC, in 2013-14, and president of ISSSS (International Society for the Scientific Study of Subjectivity) in 2007-8.
He was selected as a senior Fulbright scholar to South Korea, teaching journalism courses at Korea University and Hankook University of Foreign Studies during the academic year of 2004 and 2005. He was also chosen as American Society of Newspaper Editors' IJE (Institute for Journalism Excellence) fellow for 1999 and worked for washingtonpost.com during the summer of 1999. He also worked at the Des Moines Register on an AEJMC/Scripps Howard Social Media Grant in the summer of 2013 and at Universal McCain and McCain Erickson as an AEF(Adevertising Educational Foundation) visiting professor in the summer of 2014.,
The research area of his interest includes the application of the Internet as a vehicle for information gathering and dissemination and ethics on the Internet. His interest has expanded into big data and analytics.
He holds a Ph.D. and master's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri and a B.S. degree in international economics from Seoul National University in Korea.
