Brief Biography
I enjoy working with the wide array of issues students share. To address these varied concerns, I draw techniques from several psychological traditions in my work with an emphasis upon authenticity and empowerment. My therapeutic framework is rooted in Multicultural Feminist and Existential theories. The interlacing of these two theories encourages the exploration of one’s internal experience while emphasizing the importance of context. I believe all of us need to be meaningfully heard and understood in order to grow so I actively seek to understand the unique world view of my client.
Relationships are central to a joyful life so I’ve written two books to help others foster better interpersonal relations: Friends Forever: How Girls and Women Forge Lasting Relationships and Mothers and Daughters: Emotional Bonds and Long Term Legacies. In addition, I’ve written several journal articles and College Student Mental Health Counseling: A Developmental Approach, a textbook on college counseling.
Until recently, away from work, I spent most of my time with my two very active children. Now that they are at their respective schools, I have more time to spend with friends and to meaningfully engage in the local community. I also enjoy relaxing with a great book, listening to podcasts, exploratory dining, skiing on fresh powder, and a travel adventure whenever possible.
