Brief Biography

Matthew Valle, Ph.D., is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and is a former Air Force pilot. He earned an M.S. in Operations Management from the University of Arkansas, an M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts, and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Florida State University. He teaches management classes in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business at the undergraduate, graduate (MBA, MSBA, MSA and LAW) and executive levels, and has been a faculty member at Elon University since 2000. In 2010-2011 and again in 2017-2018, he served as the Distinguished Visiting Professor in Management at the United States Air Force Academy. He holds the rank of professor of management. 

Dr. Valle is a recipient of the Dean's Award for Exemplary Service (2004), the Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching (2006), the Dean's Award for Excellence in Scholarship (2021), and the Gerald Francis Outstanding Educator of the Year Award (2009) given by the Student Government Association at Elon University.  He also received the F. Theodore Helmer Award as the outstanding instructor in the Department of Management at the United States Air Force Academy (2018). He is the only USAFA distinguished visiting professor in the 40+ year history of the Helmer Award to be so honored. In 2013, he was named the Martha and Spencer Love Professor of Business at Elon University. His research interests include investigations of organizational politics and the phenomenon of abusive supervision, and he is interested in developing new models of business education delivery.  He has published over 100 articles in various outlets including Human Relations, the Journal of Business Ethics, Information Technology & People, the Journal of Managerial PsychologyCareer Development International, Educational and Psychological Measurement, and the Journal of Management Inquiry.  He has served in various professional capacities as a journal editorial board member and ad hoc reviewer for over 25 years.  

An active organizational consultant, his client engagements include work with Boeing, Raytheon, Bombardier Aerospace/Learjet, Gates Rubber Co. and Conagra, among others.   He is a frequent executive education facilitator and instructor.  He is certified by the Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional (PMP); he also holds the CAPM designation. In addition, he holds the Professional Scrum Master (PSM I) certification from Scrum.org.  He is an FAA licensed commercial pilot, and has flown fixed and rotary-wing aircraft.
