Brief Biography

Smaraki Mohanty is an Assistant Professor of Marketing who joined Elon’s faculty in the Fall of 2021 at the Love School of Business at Elon University after completing her Ph.D. in Management with a concentration in Marketing from the State University of New York in Binghamton. At Elon, Dr. Mohanty teaches Digital Marketing, Marketing Analytics, Consumer Behavior, and Principles of Marketing, and while at SUNY, she taught Consumer Behavior and Social Media Marketing. She has three broad areas of interest. Her first research interest lies in understanding the nuances of human-computer interaction, specifically how the usage of smart devices shapes the way consumers react, respond, and make subsequent decisions. Her second area of research dives into the topic of sustainability; in particular, it examines consumers' nuanced responses toward the various sustainability initiatives in the marketplace. Finally, she also has interest in exploring the role of symbolic brand meaning in consumers’ lives and the influence of social media and mobile marketing on consumer choices and behavior.  

She has published in top-tired peer-reviewed journals like Journal of Consumer Psychology, Computers in Human Behavior (CHB), Journal of Consumer Behaviour, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services (JRCS), Marketing Science Institute (MSI) working paper series, and has been recognized in the SERVSIG’s GOT Talent at the conference in American Marketing Association. One of her papers has been recognized as the Best Paper in the Consumer Behavior Track at the 2023 American Marketing Association Conference. Another paper has been awarded as the Best Paper in AI, Algorithms, and Machine Learning track and the Best Overall Paper for the 2024 AMA Summer Academic Conference at the American Marketing Association During her time at Elon, she has been awarded the Hultquist Fellowship award, Love Faculty Fellowship award, and Summer Fellowship Award, and she is recognized as a Sustainable Faculty Scholar and also received the Dean's Award for Excellence in Scholarship. Over the last couple of years, she has also presented her works at different academic conferences like the Association of Consumer Research, American Marketing Association, Psychology of Technology conference, etc.
