Voting by Absentee Ballot General Information
You can only vote in one place and will need to decide whether you will choose to vote in person or by absentee ballot.
Do I Need to Register to Vote Before I Request My Absentee Ballot?
Yes. Please visit the Register to Vote webpage for information.
How Do I Obtain My Absentee Ballot Form Using TurboVote?
Scroll down the page and select Vote by Mail. This tool guides students through the absentee ballot process. TurboVote automatically populates the student’s absentee ballot form.
Students should print a copy of the absentee ballot form and:
- Sign and date the form.
- Mail in the form prior to the voter registration deadline for their state. TurboVote will provide the address for the appropriate board of elections. Alternatively, once you arrive at Elon, you can visit the Kernodle Center for Civic Life in Moseley 232 for a free stamp and envelope to send in the form.
In states that have an online voter registration option, TurboVote guides the student to that option if the student chooses and provides information on how to complete that process successfully.
My North Carolina Absentee Ballot Requires a Witness and a Copy of My Eligible Photo ID. What Does this Mean?
- Mark your ballot in the presence of a notary public or two witnesses. Your notary public or two witnesses should observe that you mark the ballot, not how you vote.
- Each witness will sign their name, print their name, and provide their full address on the back of the envelope.
- Place a copy of an eligible photo ID in the clear sleeve on the back of your ballot envelope.
- Additional information can be found on the North Carolina State Board of Elections website.
Can I Track My North Carolina Absentee Ballot?
Students can track the status of their absentee ballot using Ballottrax.
What If I Have Questions About My Absentee Ballot?
Students should contact the local board of elections where they are registered to vote with any questions or concerns.
