Safe-Computing Techniques
Practice these techniques for improved online security:
- Run anti-virus software on your computer
- Use strong passwords when creating online accounts
- Ensure a link is legitimate before clicking on it (hovering over the link will often reveal its true address)
- Use two-factor authentication when it is offered
- Keep your computer and mobile device up to date by ensuring the latest patches and software versions are installed and operating properly
- Only download applications (apps) from trusted sources, and before downloading, also make sure you understand what information (i.e. your location, contacts, account info, social networking profiles, etc.) the app will access and share before you download it
