Maker Takeover is Coming on May 1!
Get ready for the 5th Annual Maker Takeover – Elon’s ultimate celebration of creativity! Join us on May 1 from 4:30-6:30 to celebrate student-made projects, make some things of your own, enjoy ice cream, and much more!

Things to see
Over 40 Student-made Projects
Explore a range of exciting student-made projects, from a DIY claw game and a made-from-scratch boombox to a robot hand that understands sign language, furniture, clothing, and A LOT more.
Also, see the latest progress of the 2024 Elon Kickboxers. These students have spent the spring semester making significant progress on a big idea. Learn more about each 2024 Elon Kickboxer.

Oak Originals
Browse items for sale from student vendors at the Oak Originals Pop-up event during the Maker Takeover! A proud partner with the Doherty Center for Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship, student vendors utilize the Maker Hub to help build their brands, prototype their ideas, and create products to sell. Q the Robot Dog
Say hi to Q, the newest robotic addition to the Engineering department. Several research projects center on improving or adapting Q for different scenarios or usages. While some may find Q slightly intimidating, Q is really friendly!
Experiences to try
Escape Room
Quest of the Phoenix is our newest escape room! You and your friends are under a terrible spell and must find the Phoenix and its feather to reverse the curse and escape before midnight.
Sign-up in person at Maker Takeover, starting at 4:30. First-come, first-serve. The room can fit up to 6 students, and each game will run every 30 minutes til 8:30.
Eat nitrogen ice cream
Elon Dining will be making ice cream using liquid nitrogen! Take a break from the excitement of Maker Takeover and partake in a yummy, sweet treat provided by Elon Dining!
Try the tool petting zoo
Experience using hand tools at the Maker Hub’s Tool Petting Zoo. Get hands-on with a hand saw, staple gun, hammer, and more.
Play a retro-arcade game
Jump back to the past using technology of the present with these throw-back games on a Raspberry Pi microcomputer.
More games!
Try your hand controlling a 3D-printed robot arm to snatch free prizes. Also, play full-size cornhole boards made in the Hub.

T-shirts
Add a design onto a free t-shirt using heat press vinyl. Quantities are limited – get there early!
Stickers
Learn how to use the vinyl cutter with the help of our student staff and either pick up a Maker Hub sticker or design your own.
Buttons
Create the perfect accessory for your bag or jacket with a custom-designed button with this quick and simple craft!
Paint Numbers
Join a collaborative art project by painting tiles that we’ll hang in the Maker Hub – Downtown. More details to come.

NEW THIS YEAR – learn to be an adult! The Maker Hub and Facilities Management are hosting a series of Adulting workshops BEFORE Maker Takeover on May 1.

Learn to care for a lawn and plant flowers that will thrive. There’s no better place to learn how to maintain a beautiful lawn than Elon.

Paint Walls like a Pro
Learn how to prep, prime, and paint walls like a pro. Members of the Paint Shop will give you tips and advice on transforming your future living area with a fresh coat of paint.

Basic Plumbing
Learn how to fix a leaking sink, repair and unclog a toilet, and shut off supply water. Plumbing team members will give tips and advice so you can fix these problems yourself.
May 1, 3:30-4:30
3D Design Contest – $1000 in prizes!
Learn more about Maker Hub’s first-ever 3D design contest, including how to submit your favorite designs and share them with your friends. Not interested in learning how to 3D design? That’s OK—prizes are also available for models found on the Internet. The contest ends on May 5, and more details are on the Maker Hub website.
