Identity Weeks
Each year the Gender & LGBTQIA Center’s Student Assistants work on multiple Identity Weeks to increase attention, visibility, awareness, and education around specific identities across the LGBTQIA spectrum.
September – Bisexual Awareness Week
Held on the 3rd week of September to align with September 23rd’s National Day of Bi Visibility, Elon expands to host Bi Awareness Week. We typically include a Tuesday College Coffee highlighting Bi role models and identities, as well as educational events focused on bisexual and pansexual identities.
October – LGBTQIA History Month
Held annually during the month of October, Elon expands to host LGBTQIA History Month. This month-long observance honors the history of the LGBTQIA communities and their related civil rights movements. We typically include social media posts highlighting LGBTQIA historical figures who fought for many of the rights seen today, as well as educational events and film screenings focused on the history of the LGBTQIA communities.
October – National Coming Out Week
Held on the 2nd full week of October, to align with October 11th’s National Coming Out Day, Elon expands to host National Coming Out Week. We typically include a Tuesday College Coffee highlighting LGBTQIA role models and identities, as well as educational events and ally trainings focused on the depth and breadth across LGBTQIA identities.
October – Intersex and Asexual Awareness Week
Held on the last week of October, to align with October 26’s National Intersex Awareness Day & the beginning of National Asexual Awareness Week, Elon expands to host Intersex and Asexual Awareness Week. We typically include a Tuesday College Coffee highlighting Intersex and Asexual role models and identities, as well as educational events focused on intersex and asexual identities.
November – Trans Week Of Action
Held of the 3rd week of November, to align with November 20’s International Transgender Day of Remembrance, Elon expands to host Trans Week of Action. We typically include a Tuesday College Coffee highlighting trans, genderfluid, and non-binary role models and identities, as well as educational events and a large vigil, focused on trans identities.
April – Spring Pride Week
Held in April, our queer-straight student alliance known as Spectrum hosts a week of events for Spring Pride Week. We typically include a Bar-B-Queer, national speakers, and the week culminates with Dragstravaganza, our annual student, employee, and community drag show.
