Roundtables (1:45-2:15):

Topic: Creating Your Constellation of Mentors

Facilitator: President Emeritus Dr. Leo Lambert

Description: Most effective leaders have a diverse team of mentors—people who advise, coach, challenge, support, inspire, and more. If we are lucky, we might have one or more mentors in our lives for an extended period of time. Others come into our constellation for a briefer period or to guide us in a specific way; these are sometimes called “mentors of the moment.” If we are wise, we seek out opportunities for mentoring conversations on a regular basis. In this roundtable discussion, we will talk about strategies for cultivating your personal constellation of mentors.

Topic: Alcohol and Consent

Facilitators: Bryson Smith & Ellen Fiedler

Description: The concept of consent is fairly clear on its own, but when alcohol and other drugs are involved, the process of giving and obtaining consent becomes complicated. Being drunk can help ease anxiety and boost confidence, but it can also impair decision-making and communication skills. So, when it comes to drunk sex, where’s the line? At this roundtable, we’ll have in-depth discussions surrounding the definition of consent, the line between drunk sex and sexual assault, and ways in which we can ensure that our relationships are rooted in clear communication and respect.

Breakout Session I (2:30-3:15):

Topic: Laughter—From Belittling to Lifting

Presenter: Professor Shawn Tucker

Description: On one side is snide, arrogant, dismissive, sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, and other forms of abusive laughter. On the other side is laughter that is warm and supportive, compassionate and forgiving, as well as encouraging, lifting, and healing. This session will explore those differences, but the emphasis is on the positive sides of laughter. There is an ever growing form of laughter activism or “Laughtivism” that uses laughter to bring about positive social and individual change. This will be another part of our discussion.
