Elon University
The prediction, in brief:

SNMP lives up to its name as a simple protocol, but … as people use it for more applications, it will need to become less simple.

Predictor: Internet Architecture Board

Prediction, in context:

In the minutes of the Internet Architecture Board meeting held June 28-29, 1990, at Bolt, Beranek & Newman in Cambridge, Mass., the members who recorded and edited the record of the proceedings write: ”There was some limited discussion of network management policy. It was pointed out that SNMP lives up to its name as a simple protocol, but … as people use it for more applications, it will need to become less simple. Two problem areas mentioned were (1) security and timing, and (2) alert management. We should expect pressure to extend SNMP.”
