It is said to be growing at a rate of 10 to 15 percent a month. An estimated 25 million people already have the capability of sending electronic mail messages on the Internet. An equal number of people, primarily on private computer networks within businesses, will probably be linked to the Internet soon. ‘In some cases, they won’t have much choice about participating in some fashion,’ said Jerry Michalski, managing editor of Release 1.0, a computer-industry newsletter in New York. ‘An Internet e-mail address is quickly becoming a requirement for business communication, as a fax number did in the U.S. around 1988.'”
