Predictor: Arms, Caroline R.
Prediction, in context:In a 1990 article for Online, Caroline Arms reflects the academic vision of the Internet’s future, prior to the arrival of the World Wide Web and Mosaic:”The potential of a comprehensive national research and education network is enormous. The resources on today’s academic networks are only the tip of the iceberg. Each month, new systems, new files, and new applications are appearing. One development of particular interest to librarians is the emergence of online publications. In addition to newsletters, a few refereed journals are now published online. These are not necessarily in technical fields. New Horizons in Adult Education, introduced about a year ago, is published at Syracuse University. Recently, Postmodern Culture, an ‘online, juried, transdisciplinary journal of postmodern literature, theory, and culture’ has been announced. There is no doubt that electronic publications will proliferate, and that citations to articles published only in electronic form will become commonplace. Librarians will need to be able to locate these journals for patrons.”
