Name: Jon Martin

Bio: I've been a Network and Internet Systems Engineer since 1998.

Area of Expertise: Technology Developer/Administrator

Topic: Technology

Headline: Life after IP

Nutshell: The technical requirements of new services deployed on the internet will require better standards and methods of internetworking.

Vision:

There are two technical models used currently in the internetworking world that will not withstand the test of time. The first is best effort IP delivery. New technologies need to be developed to guaranty end-to-end quality of service for user data. The second is security on the end user terminal. Responsibility for user security will, in some respects, need to move into the core of the Internet.

In conclusion, the current TCP/IPv4 structure of the Internet will need to evolve using new standards and technologies to overcome these problems.
