Name: Paul Barnard

From: Utah

Bio: Software developer for last 25 years

Area of Expertise: Technology Developer/Administrator

Topic: Communication

Headline: Network everywhere

Nutshell: Access Anytime, Anywhere and FAST

Vision:

Broadband wireless access will become ubiquitous. Devices will become truly portable. The cell phone will merge with the computer. It’s starting to happen now, devices are coming on line. PDAs are adding phone functions and phones are adding PDA function.. In another 5 to 10 years the technology will be cheap and readily available.
What will stop it? Well, it all relies on someone finding a way to make money out of it. The network infrastructure just isn’t going to be built without a revenue stream. A number of Governments are playing with ‘free’ access but that’s one solution I’m not going to predict as happening. All the big global carriers are putting a toe in the water but none have taken the plunge yet…

Will it happen? I think it’s a slam dunk.
