In a 1994 Business Wire story about the formation of the American Electronics Association’s National Information Infrastructure (NII) Task Force, these remarks were made by 3Com Corp. CEO Eric Benhamou, the man who was named to chair the task force: ”The National Information Infrastructure will be a critical component of the U.S. economy and electronics industries of the future … Task force members believe that accelerated development of NII will enhance U.S. competitiveness; create markets and jobs; improve education and the delivery of healthcare; and advance manufacturing. The task force’s key goals were to: Broaden the understanding of NII by AEA member companies. Provide government and other groups with an NII user perspective leading to participation in pilot programs that provide positive national role models. Establish linkages with related groups to leverage resources. In the 1990s, the AEA was the largest technology trade group, representing firms of all sizes in industry segments ranging from software and semiconductors to mainframe computers and communications systems. Other task force members included Frank Heart, Nathan Myhrvold, James Abrahamson, John Morgridge, James Kimsey, Claiborne Johnson Jr., John Seely Brown, Michael Birck, Stephen R. Biography:

Eric Benhamou chaired the American Electronics Association’s National Information Infrastructure Task Force from 1993-1995, representing 3,000 member companies in the fastest growing segments of the high-technology industry. He later became chairman of the 3Com Corporation, a world leader in networking technologies. (Technology Developer/Administrator.)
