Elon University
The prediction, in brief:

The Internet is our future. We must see it for its value as part of a revolution in service. And, of course, the Internet is an example of “Eveolution:” 50 percent of surfers are women who feel at ease with the Web.

Predictor: Popcorn, Faith

Prediction, in context:

In a 1995 interview for Marie Claire, Richard Pascale interviews futurist Faith Popcorn. Pascale (M.C.) writes in question-answer format: M.C.: “What kinds of trends can we expect in the next 10 years?” F.P.: “We’re going to see a few things. One is ‘atmosfear,’ which is the fear of contamination and pollution that makes consumers untrusting of big brands. Another is clanism, or the need to belong to a group. ‘Egonomics’ comes from consumers’ craving for recognition of their individuality to offset a depersonalized society. SOS stands for Save Our Society, a trend towards the rediscovery of social consciousness. Another one is Vitality, which we see as the search for natural ways of life. And these are only a few of them.” M.C.: “Before predicting trends, do you experience them?” F.P.: “At some point, yes. I coined the term ‘cocooning,’ and it is a reality that I live every day. My house is also my workplace. I created a family environment for my team, which is mostly composed of women. A hairdresser and a masseur come to the office during lunch. A secretary helps my collaborators to fill their income tax or makes doctor’s appointments for them.” M.C.: “Some people wonder about the Internet’s future. What do you think about it?” F.P.: “The Internet is our future. We must see it for its value as part of a revolution in service. And, of course, the Internet is an example of ‘Eveolution:’ 50 percent of surfers are women who feel at ease with the Web. The best example is the site www.ivillage.com, created in 1995 by Candice Carpenter and Nancy Evans. This site welcomes over 7 million visitors per month. On it, women find useful and practical information as well as products made for them.”
