Elon University
The prediction, in brief:

The Internet will become more organized. Even under the extreme weight of all the commercial clutter it will become more stratified … Commercial indexes will continue to grow and get more organized, and the more organized they get, the more “hits” they’ll receive.

Predictor: Broadhead, Rick

Prediction, in context:

In a 1995 interview with Rick Broadhead, reporter Mark Bell asks, “What do you foresee in terms of organization of the Internet in relationship to business?” Broadhead replies: ”Well, the Internet will become more organized. Even under the extreme weight of all the commercial clutter it will become more stratified … Up to now, the users have organized the information but, now, commercial organizations are realizing that there are opportunities in all the volunteers that have catalogued all this information. Because of the large number of sites maintained in these lists, they generate a large volume of traffic, which represents commercial opportunity, and what I am seeing now is that organizations are willing to pay these individuals to maintain these sites and to keep them up-to-date. This is becoming too difficult for volunteers to do simply because of the sheer volume of information that is appearing on the Internet. Yahoo is a wonderful example. Two Stanford University students started categorizing the Internet by subject matter and now it’s ‘Yahoo Corporation.’ InfoSeek is another one … Those commercial indexes will continue to grow and get more organized, and the more organized they get, the more ‘hits’ they’ll receive.”
