Elon University
The prediction, in brief:

The personal computer is evolving all the time. It’s going to take over the world … The future lies with the dealing with information in real time. Selling pre-recorded stuff – no matter how entertaining, like videos – down the line will not make a fortune for anyone.

Predictor: Grove, Andy

Prediction, in context:

In a 1994 article in The Observer, Robin McKie talks with Intel CEO Andy Grove. She writes: ”His forecast goes like this: Forget the entertainment business, ignore the telephone line, and concentrate on the computer. ‘A television is a television is a television,’ he says. ‘It’s a static concept. But the personal computer is evolving all the time. It’s going to take over the world.’ It’s the mighty power of the microprocessor – of which Intel builds the lion’s share across the globe – that will drive the communications revolution, he says. And it will do that by making it practical to carry out instant processing of video, audio and digital data. ‘Think of the audio tape – the music cassette and the talking book. They contain only a fraction of the content generated on a telephone network by people talking to each other every minute of the day. Well, the same is true for information processing. The future lies with the dealing with information in real time. Selling pre-recorded stuff – no matter how entertaining, like videos – down the line will not make a fortune for anyone.'”
