Elon University
The prediction, in brief:

My dream is to build … a community for the young and the old, for the millions of retired people in this country to connect to the 8- to 18-year-olds.

Predictor: Negroponte, Nicholas

Prediction, in context:

In a 1995 article in NetGuide, a number of individuals were honored as “The Tomorrow Makers,” selected by a group of star nominators. One of the nominators, Nicholas Negroponte, is quoted. In the article, Grant Fjermedal writes: ”For years, Negroponte has diligently encouraged researchers and industry leaders to be mindful of the humans who might be using what they create. Communications, he firmly believes, is about people, not machines. One of his visions, for example, is to create a virtual community where young and old can share their experiences and knowledge. ‘My dream,’ he explains, ‘is to build such a community for the young and the old, for the millions of retired people in this country to connect to the 8- to 18-year-olds.'”

Biography:

Nicholas Negroponte, a co-founder of MIT’s Media Lab and a popular speaker and writer about technologies of the future, wrote one of the 1990s’ best-selling books about the new future of communications, “Being Digital.” (Pioneer/Originator.)
