Elon University
The prediction, in brief:

The trend toward working at home will escalate … more and more people are going out on their own. They don’t want to work for large companies anymore. They are going to run businesses out of their offices at home.

Predictor: Celente, Gerald

Prediction, in context:

In a 1993 article in Business Credit, the publication of the National Association of Credit Management, writer Eric Anderson interviewed futurist Gerald Celente. Anderson writes: ”Business Credit asked Gerald Celente, author of ‘Trend Tracking – the System to Profit from Today’s Trends,’ director of the Trends Research Institute, and editor and publisher of the Trends Journal, to share his views on what the future has in store for technological progress in America … ”BC: With the advent and explosion of the personal computer, will the emerging trend be for people to work out of their homes rather than in traditional office settings?” ”Celente: Yes. The trend toward working at home will escalate for a number of reasons. Because of the recent corporate downsizing trend, more and more people are going out on their own. They don’t want to work for large companies anymore. They are going to run businesses out of their offices at home. With the technology available today, a home office can serve as a general headquarters. You can have all of the technologies that the big companies like AT&T or Kmart have in their corporate offices. The perception is gone that the person who works out of their home is a two-bit entrepreneur. Everything a major office has to offer when it comes to communication technology will be available in the home as well.”
