Elon University
The prediction, in brief:

Electronic pathways form the essential infrastructure of the Third Wave economy … taken together … [the] features of the Third Wave economy … add up to a monumental change in how wealth is created.

Predictor: Toffler, Alvin

Prediction, in context:

In their 1995 book “Creating a New Civilization: The Politics of the Third Wave,” futurists Alvin and Heidi Toffler make predictions about economic structures in what they call the Third Wave, a time that follows the Second Wave, the industrial revolution, and the First Wave, the agricultural revolution. They write: ”Billions of dollars are being poured into electronic networks that link computers, databases and other information technologies together. This vast electronic information structure, frequently satellite-based, knits whole companies together, often linking them into the computers and networks of suppliers and customers as well. Other networks link networks. Japan has targeted $250 billion to develop better, faster networks over the next 25 years. The White House now is promoting its controversial plan for an ‘information superhighway.’ Whatever we may think of the plan or the metaphor, one thing is clear: electronic pathways form the essential infrastructure of the Third Wave economy … taken together … [the] features of the Third Wave economy … add up to a monumental change in how wealth is created.”
