Elon University
The prediction, in brief:

Interactivity will blur the line between users and providers.

Predictor: Pfeiffer, Eckhard

Prediction, in context:

In a 1995 article for Computer Reseller News, Monica Young reports on action taking place at the Forrester Research Inc. Forum in Boston, quoting Eckhard Pfeiffer, CEO of Compaq Computer Corp. Young writes: ”If the executives gathered at the forum serve as industry prognosticators, the World Wide Web as we know it will cease to exist and a new, more business-friendly tool will emerge … Eckhard Pfeiffer, president and chief executive of Compaq Computer Corp., said the Houston-based company is continually evaluating the possibilities afforded by the Internet to sell products … Pfeiffer said what the Internet offers is the ability to engage in consistent exchange between Compaq and the customer. By compiling profiles of each of its customers, Compaq will make the PC experience a strong one. This, he said, will integrate the customers into Compaq. ‘Interactivity will blur the line between users and providers,’ he said. Pfeiffer admitted the Internet may change the look and feel of the PC, making it more user-friendly like the Macintosh. Compaq currently is working with Fisher Price to develop computers targeted at children age 3 and up.”
