Elon University
The prediction, in brief:

[1992 will be remembered as the year most people will want to forget because Americans] will be jolted into the realization that the institutions and experiments of the industrial age are ill-equipped to meet the demands of the emerging global age.

Predictor: Celente, Gerald

Prediction, in context:

In a 1991 article in The Seattle Times, Gerald Celente is quoted. The article says: ”As the economy worsens, look for more generic products, trade protection, union activity, home sewing and crafts, recession, civil war, moonlighting, pyramid sales, joint promotions and populism next year, says Gerald Celente’s Socio Economic Research Institute. ‘The days of “business as usual” are over,’ Celente said. ‘Those who wait for the economic recovery may not survive until it arrives.’ He predicts 1992 will be remembered as the year most people will want to forget because Americans ‘will be jolted into the realization that the institutions and experiments of the industrial age are ill-equipped to meet the demands of the emerging global age.’ As a result, on the outs next year will be brand loyalty, EC 1992, open shops, upscale labels, recovery, Soviet Union, 9-to-5 jobs, business ethics, single-production placements and conservatism.”

Gerald Celente was a futurist and director of the Trends Research Institute. He began this career in 1980 and correctly predicted both the fall of the Soviet Union and the stock market crash of the late 1980s. (Futurist/Consultant.)
