One Neighborhood, One Week on the Internet in 2001: The Families’ Stories

Meet the Elon families who took part in this project

This page is part of a revealing, detailed study of Internet use during the week of Jan. 12-19, 2001, by 24 upper-middle-class families in a small-town neighborhood. The information here was gathered through interviews and the completion of time-use diaries by individual family members in two dozen Elon, N.C., households. Entry and exit interviews and the family members’ daily diary entries have been woven into the individual magazine feature -style stories you will find here about each family. Click on each of the links to read a detailed account of each particular family’s use of the Internet during this week, at the start of the new millennium.
