As the Earth becomes more ravaged by the impact of man’s industrial activities, and the population increases to unsustainable levels, man will reach out to the rest of the solar system, or alternatively retreat into a virtual world. We will download our personalities into computers and live together in a virtual world, thereby achieving the eternal dream of immortality. The physical system in the real world would possibly be maintained by robots.
