Name: Dennis Nicoll

From: Missouri

Bio: Worked as a network analyst for 5 years. Have set up multiple websites and provide consulting.

Area of Expertise: Technology Developer/Administrator

Topic: Getting, Sharing Information

Headline: IP’s Everywhere

Nutshell: Everything has an IP and can communicate in real-time with anything else set up by the users.

Vision:

Every electrical item will automatically have an assigned IP straight from the manufacturer. Wireless radio tags the size of a pin head will be used to provide the uplink between devices. Diagnostics could be performed on a car, for example, and potential problem areas could be addressed before a breakdown.

You will be able to control every electrical device in your home from any pc anywhere (i.e. turn on and off lights, change thermostat, record programs on TV, monitor home security, view webcams, etc.)

Add a voice module to tell your house to open doors when your hands are full, turn on lights, run bath water, make phone calls with the video output on computer or TV.

A plug-in to the visual cortex with a computer worn behind the ear, could provide a display and voice activation to monitor your home, call up files, research issues, and also have a visual-recognition system providing the name of that person whose name you can’t recall right at that moment, or bio info on any person who you may have met once and whom you wish to impress by remembering their likes, dislikes, birthdays and so on.

With IP’s assigned to everything your refrig could contact all grocery stores finding the cheapest price on all items that need replacing, then contact your car and do a cost/benefit analysis weighing price of gasoline, distance to store, mpg, prices of items to determine from which store to buy.

Your auto, when low on gas, could contact all service stations within a given perimeter and show the one with lowest price and whether or not it is busy by contacting its webcam and giving the user a visual.

The user could allow others access to his/her’s visual- cortex computer and they could see and here everything that user sees and hears.

Friends and family could share vacations, and reunions, in real-time. A user could keep a visual record of his life.

Sexual harassment or any type of harassment in the work place would cease. Racial or sexual discrimination would be reduced.

And of course, all of these issues/methods/scenarios would be customizable by the user, without any limit to what could be achieved.
