Name: Robert W. Taylor
From: New Jersey
Bio: Author of "The Murphy Gap," a book urging teaching of ethics
Area of Expertise: Research Scientist/Illuminator
Topic: Community/Culture
Headline: Moral values are not advanced by the internet
Nutshell: More internet use will lead to low socialization and a diminishment of society.
Vision:An ever-widening gap is created when computer skills are taught without corresponding consideration given to the ethical use of technology. Morals can’t keep up.
There will be an ever-increasing parallel throughout our K-12 school system between HIGH TECHNOLOGY and low socialization (family-instilled values of Right vs. Wrong) among the student population.
As school boards, administrators and teachers erroneously equate computer skills with social skills, there will be an increasing level of anti-social surfing.
