Name: Frank Webb, Jr.

From: Virginia

Bio: Military C2ISR requirements analyst

Area of Expertise: Author/Editor/Journalist

Topic: Getting, Sharing Information

Headline: Secure Communications for the U.S. Military

Nutshell: Secure, robust, multi-level security communications pathways allow minimal forward footprint in theater.

Vision:

To conduct command and control today requires thousands of uniformed personnel and contractors to operate in the theater of war in which combat is conducted. In the next 10 years we will be able to conduct distributed operations that will allow not only fewer operators in the forward area but fewer operators overall.

The lynchpin in making the distributed portion a reality is developing robust secure bandwidth available worldwide.

The lynchpin for reducing the overall numbers of personnel required is automation of manual processes. The automated processes have to be assured, i.e. we know the outcome of the process is correct.

Dependable artificial intelligence may be the/an answer, but "metatagging" of data will facilitate the first rudimentary automation of complex C2 processes.
