Name: Martin G. Smith
Bio: Research coordinator for a 526+TB CAN [Closed Area Network] Library
Area of Expertise: Advocate/Voice of the People
Topic: Getting, Sharing Information
Headline: Taking Back The Vision
Nutshell: There will come a time when the abyss of overtaken networking will reach its inevitable end and rationality will prevail
Vision:The ABOTA Library was created before, but includes the philosophical direction of LOCKSS [Lots Of Copies Keeps Stuff Safe]. It is a distributed service accessed by approximately 6,200 users and is growing at a rate of 1TB/week.
The content is primarily gleaned from a continuous data mining application which is directed to specific topics of interest by any one member of the user group and deposited in the library for use by everyone.
One of the benefits of this system is it contains some documents viewed as contrary to institutional and/or government ethos which were removed from the host site, yet remain in the ABOTA Library.
