Special Committees

Elon’s Board of Trustees creates special committees as warranted to provide guidance to the board and university leadership on a particular topic or issue. One such committee is the Ad-hoc Working Group on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

The ad-hoc working group advises the board on diversity, equity and inclusion matters, including assessment and the planning of specific actionable opportunities in alignment with board discussions. It also identifies and advises the board of other potential opportunities to further advance this important work. The ad hoc working group reports directly to the chair of the board.

Board of Trustees Statement on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The Elon University Board of Trustees is determined to have all members of the Elon Community flourish, enabling all to thrive and achieve their unique potential. The Board over many years has and will continue to be fully engaged and actively supportive of initiatives aimed at creating a more diverse, inclusive and equitable community for all. Ongoing and future efforts will build upon and accelerate the progress achieved through the Elon Commitment and the new Boldly Elon strategic plans. We have built a better Elon through successful initiatives such as the Odyssey Program; the Center for Access and Success; the Center for Race, Ethnicity and Diversity Education; the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life; the Gender & LGBTQIA Center; the Kernodle Center for Civic Life; and sustained efforts to recruit students, faculty and staff of color. Still, we understand there is always more work to be done by individuals and the university, supported by the context provided by the Committee on History and Memory.

The Board of Trustees calls on all members of the Elon family to join this drive to fully embrace this important and continuing mission.
