Alumni Affinity Networks
Led by alumni and supported by the Office of Alumni Engagement, Elon’s affinity networks unite and represent the interests of alumni who share common identities and connections, promote an inclusive environment and help raise financial resources for the university’s efforts. Networks are created as other affinity groups organize. Current affinity networks include:

Black Life Advisory Council
Established in 2017, the Black Life Advisory Council is a group of parents of the university that will focus their efforts on furthering the university’s initiative to enhance opportunities and engagement in the Elon experience for Black students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The council aims to model leadership in philanthropy, support Black student recruitment efforts, and provide strategic advice that promotes an inclusive climate and better outcomes for the Black hence entire Elon community.
Committee on Elon History and Memory
Founded in 2018, the Committee on Elon History and Memory was charged with examining the university’s institutional history in a transparent, participatory and intellectually rigorous manner, and guaranteeing that we tell Elon’s story in a manner consistent with Elon’s values. After two years of work, the committee released a detailed report that focuses on the experiences of Black members of the Elon community throughout its history and explores ways to improve policies and procedures regarding Elon’s commemorative practices going forward.

Council on Civic Engagement
The Council on Civic Engagement is the central group responsible for promoting civic engagement activities across campus. Elon serves as one of the model campuses for the Carnegie Classification on Civic Engagement and is recognized as one of the nation’s top universities for community service.
Elon Community Accessibility Network
In Spring 2020, President Book approved the creation of the Elon Community Accessibility Network (ECAN), establishing a strategic partnership between Elon University and the Town of Elon in their endeavor to advance policies and practices that lead to greater access, equity and treatment for a truer shared community. Building on the work of the university’s Office of Disabilities Resources and Advocates for the Differently-Abled Employee Resource Group, ECAN’s work spans three areas: education and training, compliance and advocacy.
President’s Advisory Council on Inclusive Excellence
Founded in February 2020, the President’s Advisory Council on Inclusive Excellence serves as an on-campus advisory body for the president and is comprised of action-oriented subcommittees of faculty and staff, who serve as institutional champions for inclusive excellence. The council meets regularly to align strategic initiatives and emerging topics with a culture of inclusive excellence. The subcommittees include:
- Campus climate and assessment, which focuses on collecting, analyzing, interpreting and reporting data, as well as communicating campus climate information to members of the Elon community.
