North Carolina Business Court
Elon Law—Home of the North Carolina Business Court
Elon University School of Law is one of only a handful of law schools in the nation to house a working court—the North Carolina Business Court. The court hears cases involving complex commercial and corporate law disputes in the law school’s Robert E. Long Courtroom. In most cases, hearings are open to the public, and the court provides an excellent forum for students to see an actual working court in action.
All Business Court cases are assigned by the Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court.
The Honorable Julianna “Julie” Theall Earp presides over cases heard in Greensboro. The court also has judges and holds hearings in Raleigh, Winston-Salem and Charlotte.
Visit the Business Court Web site, which includes published decisions in recent cases and more detailed information about the court.
The courtroom includes five large flat screen monitors to display motions, briefs and other documents, wireless technology and videoconferencing capabilities.
The Long Courtroom also occasionally hosts hearings held by a three-judge panel of the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
