Incoming Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows Information Class of ’28
On behalf of Elon University and the Center for Leadership, welcome to Elon! The Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows Program is entering its 35th year, and we are honored that you are a member of the Leadership Fellows Class of 2028. You are entering a class of student leaders who represent the greatest potential for leadership on Elon’s campus. You have been selected from an applicant pool of 995 students. Your selection was based on your exceptional leadership performances in high school, both in and out of the classroom. As a Leadership Fellow, you will have countless opportunities to develop your leadership skills further. This program was formed from the legacy of 1924 Elon Alum, Dr. Isabella Cannon, who was the first female mayor of Raleigh, North Carolina. We are proud to say that this program has grown significantly over the last three decades. As your Fellows Directors, we are excited to see where your class will take the program next.
Now is the time to begin preparing for the Fall semester. On this webpage, you will find helpful information. Below is a list of terms for you to look over and a basic overview of the program.
Program Manual & Alamance Choosing Hope
We are sending your Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows “program manual/handbook” home for you and your family to review. This includes all the requirements of this scholarship program and our expectations. During the selection process, you learned that Leadership Fellows research, plan, and execute a “common good initiative” project. We want to introduce you to the community you are moving into – Burlington, North Carolina. So we are sending you a copy of Alamance Choosing Hope to read before you come to campus. We hope this document will inform your thinking about things you care about, where you might take action in Burlington, or on campus.
Welcome Dinner – Friday, August 23, 2024 (5:30 – 6:30 pm)
We are hosting a welcome dinner for you and the family members who bring you to campus move-in. This event is part of the Orientation schedule and your Orientation Leader (OL) will bring you to this event. We’ve mailed a postcard home to your family and look forward to meeting you again … and formally welcoming you to the program. You will RSVP for the number of people attending (and food allergies) on the Information Form noted below.
Information Form
Please fill out the All About Me Form online by August 2nd. This form includes contact information and information to get to know you better. We also need to update our website so please upload a senior picture or nice selfie.
Class of 2028 Retreat
All first-year Leadership Fellows are required to attend their orientation retreat which will take place at YMCA Camp Haynes (north of Winston-Salem, NC). Over the weekend (Friday, September 6 – Sunday, September 8, 2024) the Class of 2028 will get to know each other through team-building activities, learn about the Social Change Model of Leadership and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and have lots of fun! We’ll also go over program requirements and answer your questions.
We look forward to working with you over the upcoming year.
Yours In Leadership,
Tierza Watts, Director – Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows
AND
Clara Watkins, Class of ’25 & Leadership Fellows Student Director
