2019 Conference News

LEADING WOMEN IN AUDIO: Starting the Conversation

Conference focuses on achievement, awareness and allyship

On March 15th and 16th, high school and college students will have an opportunity to interact with successful professionals in the audio field, who happen to be women! The “Leading Women In Audio” conference brings presenters from across the music industry to lead Friday sessions on recording, post-production, business, live sound, entrepreneurship and broadcast sound. In addition, panel discussions on Saturday will tackle topics such as “Career Paths”, “Professionalism”, “Networking & Mentoring” and “Stereotypes and Allyship”.

Appearing at the conference will be:

Marcella Araica, from Dream Asylum Studio, Miami, FL
Karen Kane, recording engineer and faculty member, UNC-Wilmington
Michel Holbrook, audio engineer, Trailblazer Studios, Raleigh
Liz May, owner of SoundLizzard Productions, Winston-Salem
Tess Mangum Ocaña, founder of Sonic Pie Productions, Durham
Aurelia Belfield, music supervision, Trailblazer Studios, Raleigh

There will be vendor exhibits by AEA Ribbonmics and Hear Technologies, and a recording workshop by Warm Audio, featuring Nashville mix engineer/producer, Joe Carrell. Attendees will also have a time to meet with local studio owners, professionals and companies about internships and employment.

The event is supported by a grant from the Fund For Excellence of Elon College, the College of Arts & Sciences, and a gift from Chuck and Lisa Surack of Sweetwater Music and Sound. For more information, go to www.elon.edu/u/leading-women-in-audio.


SWEETWATER ADDS SUPPORT TO ELON CONFERENCE

Vendor provides gift for “Leading Women In Audio: Starting the Conversation”

Chuck and Lisa Surack, of Sweetwater Music & Pro Audio, have given a gift to the conference focusing on women in the audio industry. By offering this gift, they have helped to create opportunities for high school and college students to attend technical sessions and exhibits, and to also interact with the professional community.

The conference steering committee is thankful to the Suracks for their gift, and is pleased to bring this event to Elon. The conference takes place on March 15th and 16th, 2019.

Greensboro event company joins Elon event

Audio & Light, a Greensboro company providing AV support across the region, has provided a gift to support the “Leading Women In Audio” conference, coming on March 15-16, 2019. The gift will help to provide a banquet on Friday evening for the attendees and presenters.

The banquet will feature a welcome from Elon’s president, Dr. Connie Book and remarks by the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, Dr. Gabie Smith. We are excited and grateful to Audio & Light for helping make this event possible!

Manufacturers help create a unique experience for students

The “Leading Women In Audio” conference is excited to have industry icons bringing their support to the event. Their participation gives attendees the chance to check out equipment and talk with representatives of major manufacturers.

Sponsors of the conferences include:

Warm Audio. They will be presenting a Saturday workshop featuring Nashville mix engineer/producer, Joe Carrell. The workshop is include a wide selection of Warm Audio gear.
AEA Ribbonmics. They will have several of their high-quality microphones for attendees to try out.
Hear Technologies. Makers of cue systems and hearback equipment, they will be available and displaying their product line.
Sennheiser. They have provided a vocal mic and two pair of professional headphones to give away during the conference.
