Applicants shall be in their second year at Elon (or, in the case of students with transfer credits, their second year of higher education, with at least one full semester completed at Elon).
A cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above is strongly recommended at the time of application. Successful applicants will be expected to maintain a GPA at or above 3.50 throughout the duration of their award, and so applicants below this threshold must address this in the Feasibility section of their application.
Applicants shall have a letter of recommendation from an Elon faculty memberĀ or a staff member with faculty rank who is committed to serve as the applicant’s mentor for the applicant’s Lumen project. Applicants may make a case for exceptions if their proposal warrants. In all cases, the mentor shall be on long-term contract with the institution; adjunct and visiting professors are not eligible to serve as mentors.
Applicants are required to be in good standing at the university at the time of the application. The application committee will review any university disciplinary history, including social or academic policy violations. A history of repeated or egregious violations of the university honor code may disqualify applicants.
Applicants shall demonstrate a commitment to pursuing at least two additional academic years of study as Elon students. For this reason, students enrolled in the Dual Degree program in Engineering are not eligible (students enrolled in the four year engineering program are eligible).
