Elon’s business school seeking accreditation from association

ELON COLLEGE – The Martha and Spencer Love School of Business at Elon College has been admitted into candidacy for accreditation by the International Association for Management Education – the premier accrediting agency for business education programs.

“Accreditation means affirmation by our peers at other business schools that we are indeed a quality business school,” said John Burbridge, dean of the business school. “We are doing a lot of things right but haven’t been recognized. We are too good of a business school to not have the status of accreditation.”

The AACSB is a not-for-profit corporation of educational institutions, corporations and other organizations devoted to the promotion and improvement of higher education in business administration and management. It accredits bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs in business administration and accounting.

The school completed an extensive self-study of its strengths and weaknesses and developed a comprehensive plan to achieve accreditation. That 19-page plan calls for hiring of additional faculty, adding resources for faculty development and developing an orientation plan for new business faculty. An AACS team will visit during the 2003/2004 academic year to determine whether the school is awarded accreditation.
