ELON COLLEGE – The Elon College Alumni Association recently presented awards to four area alumni.
Nell Mann Snyder, a 1947 graduate, received the Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes a person for his/her participation and leadership in activities promoting the college. Synder is a member of executive committee of the Elon Society, the college’s premier donor group. She also is a staunch supporter of the institution’s athletic teams. She is married to the Rev. Dr. Walstein Snyder, a 1945 Elon graduate.
Dolores Hagan Truitt, a 1953 graduate, was given the Citizen’s Service Award, which is presented to individuals who have been instrumental in the advancement of the college. She also is a member of the Elon Society and has served as chair of her class reunion committee. She is married to the Rev. John Truitt Jr., a 1953 Elon alumnus. Their daughter, Melinda Truitt Reinheimer, is a 1985 graduate of the college.
John “Jack” McKeon, a 1963 graduate, received the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award, which is given to alumni who have distinguished themselves in their professions and communities and brought honor to the college. McKeon currently is the manager of the Cincinnati Reds professional baseball team. He is a member of the college’s Sports Hall of Fame and is an enthusiastic advocate of its athletic department. He is married to wife, Carol, and they have four adult children.
Anita Butler Smith, a 1988 graduate, received the Alumni Service Award, which is given to alumni who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to serve his/her community and his/her fellow man. Smith has served as class reunion chairperson and as a volunteer at alumni events. She also is member of the Elon Society. She is married to William H. Smith, a member of the college’s board of trustees. Her parents, William “Buster” Bulter and Mary Griffin Butler, also are Elon graduates.
Daniel C. Dollins, a 1993 graduate, of Houston, Texas, was awarded the Young Alumnus of the Year Award for his professional succes and for his volunteer role with the college’s Career Center.
