Two retirees receive Elon Medallions

ELON COLLEGE – Wesley G. Brogan, a retired professor, and Marydell R. Bright, retired dean of admissions and financial aid, recently were honored with Elon Medallions.

The medallion is given to individuals who in some official capacity have rendered outstanding service to the college and are distinguished by the unusual length and quality of their service.

Brogan of Greensboro served in several capacities at the college before retiring in 1992. He was professor of education, psychology and human services, chairman of the department of education and psychology, director of the masters of education program and associate dean of academic affairs.
His service to the college was recognized with a scholarship in name.

Since retirement, Brogan has been an active member of Guilford College United Methodist Church and been a volunteer at Moses Cone Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Center. He and his wife, Dot, have three children.

Bright of Burlington worked at Elon from 1970 to 1984, retiring as dean of admissions and financial aid. In that capacity, she helped the college gain national visibility and attract better prepared students.

Bright also is an active members of the community, serving as a volunteer with Alamance Regional Medical Center and Hospice of Alamance. She is a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Burlington. She and her husband, Lewis, have four children and seven grandchildren.
