ELON COLLEGE – Dr. Tona Gilmer, who heads the cancer biology department at Glaxo Wellcome, will speak at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21 in Whitley Auditorium at Elon College.
The speech, which is free and open to the public, is titled “The Promise of Oncology Drug Discovery” and is part of the college’s Voices of Discovery Science Speaker series.
Gilmer has been employed by Glaxo Wellcome in the Research Triangle Park since 1988. She has held many positions, including serving as spokesman and participant in the Insights in Research program, which educates the public, universities and lawmakers about the company’s research developments. She is also a professor of research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.
